The Doctor Visit That Got the Whole Thing Started
When I went in to see the doctor, I got the usual drill…lower your numbers, lose weight, etc, etc, etc. All I could say, was that I had been trying to lose weight and I had plateaued at 230 pounds…for years. In response, she gave me a list of videos to check out. One of those videos was, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, produced by Joe Cross. I am here to tell you that this video, for me, was a life changer. Seriously, that is when my life did a 180.
“Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”
Watching that video, I was amazed. It was obvious that his health had improved, but only juice!!? That was crazy talk! I couldn’t imagine living on juice for a week, let alone for multiple months! I knew that juicing wouldn’t work for me. You have to really like something to stick with it.
One thing that I have always liked was slushy drinks…smoothies, shakes, frozen slush mixed drinks. I don’t know where I heard of green smoothies, but I believed that they were something that would work. Little did I know, how much green smoothies (and thickies) would change my life.
It doesn’t take much to begin with green smoothies. All you need is a kitchen blender, bananas, blueberries, nondairy milk or water, and spinach or kale. That’s it. I started out with a NutriBullet that I got at Walmart, but a good home blender will do fine.
Doing It Just Because
When I first began having the smoothies, I will admit to just doing it the first few times, just because I knew that it was good for me and that it had to be doing something for me. I SURE didn’t have a healthy diet. Well, it wasn’t particularly unhealthy, but that was because of all my food issues, and had nothing to do with any lifestyle changes. I continued with it, even after the ‘new’ was off the experience, because I knew that it was good for me. Surely, it would make me feel better…eventually, right!?
A few weeks later, I came home from work and went outside to mow the grass. My roommate noted that I had NEVER been able to do that before. That is when I stopped to think…I AM feeling better! I was coming home and DOING things! It didn’t take me long to put two and two together (drinking green smoothies = feeling much better). From that point on, I was committed. I realized that I had not felt this good in a very long time.
Killing My NutriBullet
I REALLY like frozen smoothies. In fact, I don’t really care for them if they aren’t, at least partially, frozen, I don’t really care for them. And I know enough about myself, to know that if I don’t like it, then I won’t make it or eat it. I will forget, not have the time, you know the drill, right? Well, with a NutriBullet, making the smoothie 3 or 4 times a week can be pretty easy.
However, I want to tell you, NutriBullet isn’t up to extremely heavy uses of frozen fruit without softening. Mine only lasted a few months, but in its defense, it was heavily abused.
